The Business of Medicine

Medicine is a business but doctors don’t have business minds. They’re actually mostly people who are good at memorization and regurgitation of the information. Through out my childhood my family was immersed in the business of medicine.  One person had the degree and the other had the business mind. Our home was littered with pharmaceutical swag, our family vacations were to medical conventions, free dinners at the best restaurants and the pharmaceutical reps were like family. The reps were everything because those who treated you the best were the ones who’s medication you prescribed the most. Watching doctors learn how to best memorize and regurgitate the talking points the pharmaceutical company wanted you to represent all while completely ignoring anything that could challenge the safety of medication.

.

The business of medicine is also so far and so widespread it’s unbelievable and most of it has nothing to do with the purpose of medicine in the first place, the health of people. Everyone, doctors, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies have their hand in the pot and everything revolves around profit and nothing around cures or the health of the people.

.

Unfortunately it’s really a shining example of supply and demands to a doomed society. Medicine not for profit means cures but with a long line of self serving clientele that doesn’t want to do the work to be healthy or have any accountability for their lifestyle choices the business of medicine is alive and well.

.

Everything in medicine is bought and paid for and nothing comes for free!

Alcohol

Alcohol has a different relationship with all of its users and even its former users. Some people spend their entire lives in the pursuit of alcohol. Wether it be the weekend warrior who works hard all week and just gets wasted all weekend or the two glasses of wine a night business woman who just needs to unwind. Some people can have just one drink and some just can’t stop.  Most people start off a certain way with alcohol but it seems that the general gist is that a lot of peoples problems or lack thereof in life can be directly correlated with their relationship with alcohol.

For me personally, there was a period of time where I did go out and enjoy drinking but i was always very controlled with the amount of nights and drinks I had once I learned my limits. I never let it affect accomplishing my goals in my career and fitness. After my relationship with many alcoholics I just made commitments to my health, my body and mind. I outgrew alcohol being part of my life and would have one drink here or there.  Slowly but surely as I would have an occasional drink, it would have a horrible affect on me. Like a sip of vodka would cause anxiety and I couldn’t tolerate the lack of mental control. I didn’t like how it made me feel. When I was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy I didn’t want to have a drink especially while on the medications and I just haven’t had any alcohol since. It’s been over a year and I just don’t have alcohol in my life at all and it’s nothing like I can’t if i wanted to it’s just I think that drinking alcohol prevents you from evolving, enjoying life and tackling your goals.  Alcohol is the inventor of problems and the masker of emotional wellness. It robs you of life even your celebrations. Why is #alcohol the celebration and not the feelings of joy you feel being enough. Problem thinking, bad decision making, procrastination and in some cases health issues. You can only go so long before alcohol deteriorates you in some way so you either go down with it or survive it.

Benefits of Omega-3’s

Benefits of Omega 3:

*

1. #Cardiovascular Health: Many studies have shown that Omega-3s contribute to better heart health. "The strongest evidence for a beneficial effect of omega-3 fats has to do with heart disease. These fats appear to help the heart beat at a steady clip and not veer into a dangerous or potentially fatal erratic rhythm." - Harvard Medical School

*

2. #Child #Development: Omega-3 fatty acids are important for brain development of the in utero and growing child. Higher IQs in children have been linked to higher amounts of omega-3 fatty acids consumed during their mother’s pregnancy. A study of 500 children found that those low in omega-3 fatty acids had more trouble reading.

*

3. #Dementia and #Brainhealth: The American #Nutrition Society has conducted 3 studies on the elderly that show evidence that omega-3 fatty acids could help prevent dementia because dementia is linked to cardiovascular health. Omega-3s are linked to bigger, healthier brains that bode well for the aging body.

*

4. Bipolar Depression: In a review of different supplemental therapies for #bipolar depression, #omega3 fatty acid was the one that showed the highest promise for making a difference.

*

5. Prevent Breast Cancer: Research in Asian countries where seafood is commonly eaten shows reduced breast cancer rates. Scientists who work specifically in the field of breast cancer have long recommended the addition of omega-3s, in their patients nutrition.

*

6. Reduces Anxiety: A study conducted by John Hopkins, links omega-3s to how you feel.  The study concluded that teens low in Omega-3s are more likely to feel anxious. It showed that making sure they have adequate omega-3s in their diet can help prevent excessive anxiety.  Similarly, expectant mothers who consumed more Omega-3's during their pregnancy reported far less anxiety than those who consumed less.

Omega-3s are commonly associated with seafood but there are a lot of plantbased sources like walnuts, Hemp hearts, chia seeds & leafy greens. It's extremely important to eat a well-balanced, nutrient-rich diet that's high in omega-3s for a healthy heart & a calm mind giving your body and mind balance for optimum health!

The small picture about health and Nutrition

The focus of life seems to always want to pull us to the whole picture, “the big picture” but what if what we really need to take into perspective is the smallest picture. Cells dividing “with an unerring certainty” is how life begins. Each step has to occur to evolve.

“The functions and capacities of a complex organism are made possible by the structural arrangements and organic synthesis formed during embryonic evolution.

Despite the proliferation of cells in the evolving embryo, they never lose their solidarity. Not only a continuous adjustment but also a profound equilibrium co-adapts the differentiated cellular units into functioning organs. The living unit spreads ever wider from the very first cell division tracing the lineaments of the new organism with an unerring certainty”  Herbert M. Shelton, author “Health for the Millions”

No Matter the being the cells are always fed in order to be capable of evolving. What they are fed is dependent on so many individual factors. That’s why nutrition principles as simple as feeding the cells and see how they develop are the best way for an individual to find health in a functional lifestyle. Nutrition is trial and error with the focus always being how to feed the cells with a net neutral of symptoms. Symptoms being the result of what’s consumed and the capacities of the cell to live and evolve in good health or is there an aversion.  Nutrition is hard because it’s very mental and that involves ego. Sometimes the things we love to eat the most are the things that cause us the most problems. I always recommend an 80/20 split between focusing on basic nutritional needs and pleasure eating.  You’ll really feel the difference after you pleasure eat and when you consistently nutritionally eat.   How you react to food and how another person does is all based on how you’re structured which starts with the first cell division, that’s why everyone has different nutritional needs, due to the individuals DNA  nutritional needs and that’s how nutrition needs to be approached.  Society has strayed far from this basic principle and not until the symptoms exist are people mindful of their nutrition. The purpose of eating is to keep your cells healthy so your organs can function not to keep your ego alive. Typically the death of the ego regarding food results in a healthier more conscientious person.
